Bishop Harry L. Seawright

Bishop Harry L. Seawright currently serves as the Presiding Prelate of the Thirteenth Episcopal District (Kentucky and Tennessee), assigned during the 52nd Quadrennial Session of the AME Church in August 2024. He also chairs the AME Commission on Christian Education. Elected as the 133rd Bishop of the AME Church in 2016—only the second to be elected on the first ballot—he previously led the Ninth Episcopal District (Alabama) from 2016 to 2024.

A fourth-generation AME, Bishop Seawright was raised in Swansea, SC, and nurtured at Prodigal AME Church. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Benedict College and both M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Howard University, earning top honors in both programs. His ministry journey began under the mentorship of AME bishops and included 35 years of pastoral leadership in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

An author of two books—More Than Bricks and Mortar and Don’t Faint—he is known for his practical and compassionate ministry. He has served on numerous church and civic boards, including the AME Commissions on Economic Development and Health, and the Turner Seminary Trustee Board. A former President of the Council of Bishops (2019–2020), he is also a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.

Bishop Seawright is a successful entrepreneur and founder of WeKleen, Inc., HLS Consulting, Trinity Group, and Prestigious Property Management. He is married to Sherita Gayle Moon, and they have two children, Shari Nicole and Rev. Harry Matthew, and a grandson, Cameron Isaiah.
